Maintenance and service

Prev Next

This article describes how to keep the GX1 in good working order, what calibration covers, and how to request Emesent service.

Calibration

The GX1 is calibrated at manufacture and arrives ready to scan. Two calibrations are applied: a spatial-accuracy calibration, and a color calibration for colorized point clouds and panoramic images.

For normal use, no operator action is required. There is no operator-facing calibration menu or recalibration procedure, and calibration is maintained for the life of the unit under normal operating conditions.

After a significant impact or drop

If the GX1 has experienced a significant impact, contact Emesent support before continuing to scan. Visible damage is not always present. Operation outside the rated temperature range can also affect calibration and accuracy.

Troubleshooting scan accuracy

SLAM calibration is generally highly robust over time, so if scan accuracy is worse than expected, calibration is often not the cause. Check the following before assuming the GX1 needs attention:

Factor

What to consider

Scan environment

Global accuracy varies with the environment. Feature-poor environments (open spaces, smooth surfaces) yield wider error than feature-rich environments.

Constraint method

Unconstrained, GCP-constrained, and RTK or PPK scans have different expected accuracies. Compare the result to the spec for the constraint method used.

Processing settings

Confirm Aura processing settings match the expected workflow.

Recent events

A significant impact, drop, or operation outside the rated temperature range can affect calibration.

If accuracy is still outside the expected range after these checks, or for any other performance issue, submit a Remote Validation Request. Emesent uses the dataset to assess the GX1's calibration and performance.
