Manage point clouds

This article explains how to rename, move, and delete point clouds in Aura Cloud, including bulk actions and how to find specific scans.

What you will need

  • An Emesent account with Aura Cloud access.

  • At least one project containing point clouds. To create a project, see Create and manage projects and folders.

  • A modern web browser. Google Chrome on a desktop or laptop is recommended.

Find a point cloud

Aura Cloud provides search, sort, and filter controls to help locate a specific point cloud in a project or folder. The controls combine, so filtering by status and then sorting by upload date returns the most recent scans of that status first.

Procedure

Most procedures below start the same way: open the More actions menu for a single point cloud, then follow the steps for the action you want. Bulk actions work differently, see Run bulk actions.

Open the More actions menu

  1. Locate the point cloud in the project or folder.

  2. Navigate to the right side of the loaded point cloud.

  3. Click the three stacked dots to open the More actions menu.

The More actions menu is the starting point for renaming, moving, deleting, and managing access for a point cloud.

Rename a point cloud

  1. Open the More actions menu (see above) and select Rename.

  2. Enter the new name and confirm. A confirmation message appears and the new name is shown in the list.

Move a point cloud

  1. Open the More actions menu (see above) and select Move.

  2. Select the destination project or folder and confirm.

Delete a point cloud

Deletion is permanent. Any public links sharing the point cloud stop working immediately.

  1. Open the More actions menu (see above) and select Delete permanently.

  2. Confirm the deletion.

Manage public access

  1. Open the More actions menu (see above) and select Public access.

  2. Turn public access on or off. When public access is on, Aura Cloud generates a public link to share.

Run bulk actions

Bulk actions apply the same operation to multiple point clouds in one step. Unlike the single-item procedures, you start by selecting point clouds rather than opening the More actions menu.

  1. In the project or folder, select multiple point clouds.

  2. Apply the bulk action (move or delete) to the selection.

  3. Complete the operation in the same way as the single-item action.

Row actions by status

The actions available on a point cloud depend on its current status (uploading, processing, ready, or failed). For status definitions, see Aura Cloud glossary.

Outcome

Point clouds are organised, named, and grouped so the team can find scans quickly and keep projects tidy.
