This article explains how to upload a processed point cloud to Aura Cloud so it can be viewed and shared in a browser. The result is a point cloud that reaches the ready status in a project, available to open in the 3D viewer.
What you will need
An Emesent account with Aura Cloud access. To get access, contact the organization's Emesent admin, the local Emesent partner, or Client support.
A processed point cloud file. Either process a dataset locally in Aura 2.2 or later, or use an existing local point cloud file.
A modern web browser. Google Chrome on a desktop or laptop is recommended.
An internet connection with enough bandwidth to upload large point cloud files.
Aura 2.2 or later is required to process datasets for upload to Aura Cloud. Earlier versions of Aura produce point clouds that cannot be uploaded.
Procedure
Step 1: Open the destination project
Sign in to Aura Cloud.
From the project list, select the project to upload into. To create a new project first, see Create and manage projects and folders.
If a folder is needed for the upload, open or create the destination folder inside the project.
Step 2: Start the upload
Select Upload.
In the file selector, browse to the point cloud file on the local computer.
Select the file and confirm the upload.
The point cloud appears in the project view with an uploading status. The browser tab must stay open until the upload finishes.
Step 3: Add tags (optional)
Tags are short labels used to organize and filter point clouds across a project.
Select the new point cloud in the project view.
Open the tag field in the details panel.
Enter one or more tags. Press Enter after each tag.
Select Save.
For an overview of tags and filtering, see Manage point clouds.
Step 4: Wait for processing
After the upload finishes, Aura Cloud prepares the point cloud for online viewing. The status changes through the following states:
Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
Uploading | The file is being transferred to Aura Cloud. |
Validating | The upload has completed and Aura Cloud is verifying the file structure, metadata, and integrity before processing begins. |
Processing | Upload is complete and the point cloud is being prepared for online viewing. |
Ready | The point cloud is fully processed and available in the 3D viewer. |
Failed | Upload or processing did not complete. The point cloud is not viewable until the upload is retried. |
Large scans can take significantly longer to process than small scans. The browser tab can be closed while a point cloud is in the processing state. The status updates in the project view when processing is complete.
Step 5: Confirm the upload
Wait for the point cloud to reach the ready status.
Select the point cloud to open it in the 3D viewer.
Confirm the scan displays correctly. Use the camera controls to navigate around the point cloud.
For viewer controls and display options, see View and navigate point clouds.
Outcome
The point cloud is uploaded, processed, and available to view in the 3D viewer. It can now be shared with others through a public link, downloaded, or organized into folders.
Additional information
If an upload fails, the point cloud appears with a failed status. Delete the failed entry and retry the upload from a fresh session. For repeated failures, see Aura Cloud troubleshooting.
Closing the browser tab during the uploading state interrupts the upload. The browser tab can be closed once the status reaches processing.
For sharing the uploaded point cloud, see Share and download point clouds.
