Connect to Commander

Prev Next

This article explains how to connect Commander to GX1 over the GX1 Wi-Fi access point. Once connected, Commander can configure GX1, run scans, and offload scan data.

What you will need

  • GX1 powered on and in its ready state. See Power GX1 on and off.

  • An Android tablet or mobile device with the latest version of Commander installed.

  • The current Wi-Fi password for GX1. On a new or factory-reset GX1, the default Wi-Fi password is hovermap.

Log in to Commander before connecting to GX1. The GX1 access point has no internet, and Commander needs internet to sign in. Logging in first avoids switching the tablet between networks partway through setup.

Procedure

Step 1: Select the GX1 network

  1. On the Android device, open the Wi-Fi settings.

  2. Select the network named GX1_<serial>, where <serial> is the GX1 serial number.

Step 2: Enter the Wi-Fi password

  1. Enter the Wi-Fi password.

  2. Press Connect to connect to the GX1 Wi-Fi.

Step 3: Open Commander and confirm the connection

  1. On the Android device, open Commander.

  2. Wait for Commander to connect to GX1.

  3. Confirm the GX1 serial number appears in the top-right corner of Commander, next to the Wi-Fi icon.

Outcome

Commander is connected to GX1 and ready to be configued.

Additional information

  • GX1 broadcasts its own Wi-Fi access point and does not need to join an external network. For details on the network interfaces GX1 exposes, see Understand GX1 network interfaces and exposed services.

  • On the first connection to a new GX1, Commander prompts for a new Wi-Fi password. The new password must be at least 15 characters, and takes effect after the next GX1 reboot. This Wi-Fi password is separate from the account password used to sign in to Commander.

  • If the GX1 Wi-Fi network does not appear in the network list on the Android device, confirm GX1 is powered on. See Power GX1 on and off.
