Recover Aura log files

Prev Next

This article explains how to retrieve Aura log files, capture a screenshot, and generate a DirectX Diagnostic (DxDiag) report. These files help the Client Support team identify the cause of unexpected crashes or scan processing failures, so issues can be resolved and Aura improved over time.

Once collected, attach the log files, screenshot, and DxDiag report to an incident report submitted through the Client Support form.

What you will need

  • A Windows computer running Aura.

  • Access to the scan folder for the affected processing job (only required if scan processing did not complete).

Procedure

Step 1: Locate the Aura log files

The log file location depends on what went wrong. Use the relevant scenario below.

Scenario A: Aura closed unexpectedly

When Aura closes unexpectedly and the status reporter appears, the log files are located in one of these paths:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Aura\Saved\Logs
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Aura\Saved\Logs

Scenario B: Scan processing will not complete

When a scan being processed in Aura does not complete, the log file is located at:

<scan folder>\<output name>\IntermediateFiles\<stage it failed on>\Output\aura_grpc.log

Step 2: Capture a screenshot

Capture a screenshot of the entire Aura window at the point the status reporter appears or when the scan stops progressing.

  1. In the Aura UI, select Capture Screenshot to generate a screenshot of the current view.

    Capture Screenshot button in Aura

  2. The screenshot is automatically saved to:

    Documents\Emesent\Aura\Screenshots

With Multi-Frame Rendering enabled, a high-quality screenshot is produced and all settings, such as GCP landmarks, appear in the screenshot.

Step 3: Generate a DirectX Diagnostic (DxDiag)

A DirectX Diagnostic (DxDiag) is a standard Windows output that helps the Client Support team understand how the computer interacts with Aura.

  1. On the keyboard, press the Windows key.

  2. Press R to open the Run window.

  3. Click the Run system icon.

    Run command icon

  4. In the dialog box, type dxdiag and click OK.

  5. The DirectX Diagnostic Tool opens.

  6. Click Save All Information.

  7. Click Save. The file is saved to the desktop as dxdiag.txt.

  8. Click Exit.

Outcome

The Aura log files, screenshot, and DxDiag report are now collected and ready to attach to an incident report submitted through the Client Support form.
