This article explains how to recover flight log files from a Freefly Astro or Astro Max aircraft after an incident or unexpected flight behavior. These logs help the Emesent Client Support team investigate the cause of the issue.
When to recover flight logs
Recover flight logs when:
The Freefly Astro or Astro Max aircraft has been involved in a hazardous incident or near-miss.
The aircraft has displayed unexpected flight behavior.
Emesent Client Support has requested flight logs as part of an investigation.
If the Hovermap has also been involved in an incident or near-miss, see Report an aircraft incident or near-miss for the full reporting process.
What you will need
The Freefly Astro or Astro Max aircraft used during the flight.
The remote controller and the tablet used during the flight.
A USB cable to connect the tablet to the remote controller, or to connect the aircraft to a computer.
A computer with internet access.
Optional: Auterion Suite account credentials, if the aircraft is registered.
Procedure
Freefly Astro stores flight logs on the onboard SD card. Depending on the configuration, the logs may also be uploaded automatically to the Auterion Suite. Choose the option that matches the setup.
Option 1: Retrieve logs from the Auterion Suite
If the aircraft is registered in the Auterion Suite, the Astro automatically uploads flight log files to the Suite whenever a WiFi or LTE connection is available. The logs can then be accessed and downloaded from the Suite.
For instructions, see the Freefly Pilot's Operating Handbook section on Auterion Suite / Flight Logs.
Option 2: Download logs from the onboard SD card
If the aircraft is not registered in the Auterion Suite, or if a WiFi or LTE connection was not available during or after the flight, download the logs directly from the onboard SD card to a computer using a USB connection between the tablet and the remote controller.
For step-by-step instructions, see the Freefly Pilot's Operating Handbook section on Auterion Suite / Flight Logs.
Share the logs with Emesent
Once recovered, share the flight log files with Emesent through the Client Support form. The Emesent Client Support team uses these logs to investigate the incident and identify the cause.
