Commander uses Emesent account credentials (the same as Aura) and is designed for long-term offline use. Once signed in, Commander works fully offline with minimal connectivity needs.
Login sessions last 180 days, after which a reconnection renews access. If a session expires and login is not possible, Commander includes a 14-day offline fallback to ensure continued operation in remote environments.
Key takeaways
One account, multiple platforms. Use the same Emesent credentials as Aura.
Extended offline operation. 180-day sessions minimise internet dependency.
Mission continuity guaranteed. 14-day Temporary Access as an emergency backup.
Proactive notifications. Commander alerts before sessions expire.
Flexible connectivity. Internet is only needed at login, then operation continues completely offline.
Understanding login options
What is Standard Login?
The primary method of accessing Commander. Log in with Emesent credentials to receive 180 days of offline operation. This extended session enables work in remote locations for months without needing internet access.
What is Temporary Access?
An emergency fallback option for when login is not possible. Temporary Access provides 14 days of operation without requiring credentials or internet connectivity, keeping missions on track in the most disconnected environments.
Before you begin
What are the device requirements?
Commander must be installed on a supported tablet.
A compatible device is required for best performance.
What are the network connection requirements for login?
Connect the tablet to the internet (not to the scanner's Wi-Fi).
Internet access is only required for the login itself.
What credentials do I need to log in?
Have the Emesent account username and password ready.
These are the same credentials used for Aura.
After a successful login
What happens after login?
Once login is successful:
Commander returns to the Mission Select screen.
The tablet can be disconnected from the internet immediately.
Connect to the scanner's Wi-Fi to begin operations.
The 180-day session begins, allowing full offline functionality.
Managing the session
How do I view my remaining session time?
The time remaining in the current session can be checked at any time:
Open the hamburger menu on the left side of the main toolbar.
Look at the bottom of the options menu next to the Logout button.
A countdown displays the days remaining in the current session.
How will I know when my session is about to expire?
Session expiry notifications. Commander proactively keeps users informed:
In-app notifications appear as the expiry date approaches.
Reminders give plenty of time to plan internet access.
The reminders help avoid unexpected downtime in the field.
The 14-day Temporary Access fallback remains available if needed.
When and how is my session refreshed?
Refreshing the session. To refresh the login session:
Connect the tablet to the internet (every ~6 months).
The session refreshes automatically.
Requesting login access
What if I don't have a login?
Option 1: Contact the organisation's internal license administrator.
Reach out to the organisation's designated license manager. They can grant access through Emesent User Management.
Option 2: Contact Emesent Client Support.
If the local administrator cannot be located, contact Emesent using the Nominate an Emesent User Management Admin Form.
