End of support for DJI M210 and Commander 210

Prev Next

In alignment with DJI's end-of-life (2019) and end-of-service (2024) for the M210, Emesent is ending support for the DJI M210 platform and Commander 210 software in future software releases. This change allows Emesent to focus on delivering more frequent updates, improved system performance, and a more streamlined experience across supported platforms.

Changes to Commander 210 and DJI M210 support

Why is this happening?

  • The DJI M210 has been end-of-life (EOL) since January 2019 and end-of-service (EOS) from February 2024.

  • Older DJI v4 firmware and barometer-modified M300 units rely on Commander 210 but are increasingly incompatible with the re-architected Commander and Cortex platforms.

Why now?

With the improvements introduced in Cortex 4.0 and above, the M300 and M350 can now operate in confined spaces comparable to those previously suited to the M210, specifically when using autonomy modes such as Waypoints and Exploration. Operators can confidently upgrade without compromising the ability to scan narrow environments, including demanding applications like stope mining. These capabilities have been validated in real-world scenarios to ensure consistent and reliable performance.

What are my options?

M210 users

Option

What it means

Considerations

Upgrade to a supported hardware platform

Move to a current, fully supported drone platform and software version.

Recommended path for ongoing support and access to new features. The M300 and M350 can now operate in similarly tight spaces as the M210 (as of Cortex 4.0).

Remain on Commander 210 (v2.1) + Cortex 4.0

Continue using the current setup.

  • This configuration will no longer be recommended or supported in future Cortex releases.

  • Cortex 4.0.2 and Commander 2.1.0 will be the final versions that include support for Commander M210 and DJI v4 firmware.

  • Continued use of outdated software may affect warranty coverage.

M300 users (with DJI v4 firmware)

Option

What it means

Considerations

Remain on Commander 210 (v2.1) + Cortex 4.0

Continue using the current setup with old firmware.

Upgrade to the latest Commander and Cortex

Keep the M300 and move to the latest supported software.

  • Requires DJI firmware upgrade and reapplication of the barometer modification.

  • Enables access to new features, bug fixes, and improved performance.

  • Contact Emesent Support to plan the upgrade and minimise downtime.

How does this affect me?

Commander 210 and the M210 platform will no longer be supported in future software releases. Cortex 4.0.2 and Commander 2.1.0 will be the final versions to support this configuration.

To avoid operational disruption, M210 users should begin planning their upgrade path now. Cortex 4.0.2 will be moved to the Legacy Downloads page during a transition period.

Frequently asked questions

What is Commander M210?

Commander M210 refers to the version of Emesent's Commander software specifically designed to support DJI drones running DJI Firmware v4 and below, including the DJI M210 and early M300 units. This version enabled compatibility with older DJI platforms that are no longer actively supported by DJI.

Can I still use my M210?

Yes, with Commander 210 (v2.1.0) and Cortex 4.0.2. However, this configuration will not be supported in future releases.

Can I still use my M300?

The M300 can still be used. Units operating on the latest DJI firmware will remain supported in future Commander and Cortex releases. However, aircraft running DJI firmware version 4 or earlier will no longer be supported. To maintain compatibility, the firmware must be upgraded to the latest version. This process will remove the existing barometer modification, which must be reapplied by a DJI-authorised repairer. The Emesent team is available to support this transition.

What should I consider if my M300 has a barometer modification?

An M300 with a barometer modification running DJI firmware v4 will not be supported in future Commander and Cortex versions. To maintain compatibility, upgrade to the latest DJI firmware and have the barometer modification reapplied by a DJI-authorised repairer. Plan this in advance to avoid disruption. The Emesent team is available to support the process.

What if I experience an aircraft incident with an M210 after support ends?

Most M210 units are no longer under warranty. While Hovermap may still be covered, it must be operated on a supported software version to remain eligible for warranty support. Once Commander M210 is no longer supported in current software, it will not meet the requirements for warranty coverage. Plan the upgrade in advance to avoid downtime. The Emesent team is available to support the transition.

What if I experience an aircraft incident using an M300 with DJI firmware v4 after support ends?

DJI firmware v4 will no longer be supported in current software versions. While Hovermap may still be under warranty, operating it with unsupported firmware may affect eligibility for warranty coverage. Update the firmware and reapply the barometer modification through a DJI-authorised repairer. The Emesent team is available to assist with upgrade planning and minimise any potential downtime.

Can the M300 or M350 access the same tight spaces as the M210?

Yes. As of Cortex 4.0, the M300 and M350 offer similar or improved clearance for narrow environments, including stope mining, during Autonomy missions.
