This article explains how to clean the LiDAR lens on the Hovermap unit. A clean lens keeps scan data accurate and prevents permanent damage to the optical coating.
What you will need
Compressed air or a soft anti-static brush.
A microfiber cloth.
A lint-free swab.
99 % isopropyl alcohol (IPA).
Mild soapy water and clean water, for heavy contamination.
The protective cover for the LiDAR Puck.
Procedure
The LiDAR lens has a delicate optical coating. Use only the approved cleaning materials listed above. Do not use ammonia-based cleaners, paper towels, tissues or abrasive cloths. These materials cause permanent damage to the coating.
Step 1: Remove loose debris
Clear dust and particles from the lens with compressed air or a soft anti-static brush.
Do not touch the lens surface.
Step 2: Clean stubborn marks
Do not apply alcohol directly to the lens. Do not apply heavy pressure to the lens. Both actions can damage the optical coating.
Moisten a microfiber cloth or a lint-free swab lightly with 99 % IPA.
Wipe the lens gently from the center to the outer edge.
For heavy contamination, apply mild soapy water to the cloth.
Rinse the cloth with clean water.
Wipe the lens again with the rinsed cloth.
Step 3: Dry and examine the lens
Wipe the lens with a clean, dry microfiber cloth.
Examine the lens for smudges or residue.
If smudges or residue remain, do Step 2 again.
Attach the protective cover to the LiDAR Puck immediately after cleaning. The cover prevents new contamination.
Outcome
The LiDAR lens is clean, dry and free from smudges and residue. The protective cover is attached and the unit is ready for use or storage.
