Perform a mapping mission on a smartphone

This article explains how to run a mapping mission using Emesent Commander on an Android smartphone. Use this procedure to complete a scanning mission in Mapping mode using the smartphone interface. The smartphone interface supports the following features: starting and stopping scans, enabling Observer Mode, accessing the Web UI, downloading logs, and configuring application settings.

Although the steps for conducting a mapping mission are similar across devices, this article covers what is specific to the smartphone interface. For detailed information on the full mission workflow, refer to the Mapping, Pilot Assist, or Autonomous Mission articles

Autonomous missions cannot be started from a smartphone. If an Autonomous mode mission is already in progress, you can monitor it using Observer Mode only.

What you will need

  • Android smartphone with Emesent Commander installed

  • Hovermap device

Procedure

Step 1: Open Emesent Commander

  1. Open Emesent Commander on your Android smartphone.

  2. A dialog displays indicating that Commander is running on a smartphone. Tap Close to go to the main landing page.

Step 2: Connect to your network

  1. Tap Connect. The Network Settings window opens.

  2. Confirm you are connected to the correct Hovermap and robot (if applicable).

  3. To change the connection, tap Change Network or enter the host or IP address manually.

Step 3: Select the mission type

  1. Tap the Non-Autonomous Mapping Mission tile.

  2. If a Mapping mode mission is already in progress, select whether to resume that mission or start a new one.

If an Autonomous mode mission is in progress, you can only monitor the mission in Observer Mode.

Step 4: Complete pre-mission checks

  1. On the Pre-mission checks page, read each inspection item.

  2. Check and confirm each item as you complete it.

  3. On the Connectivity page, confirm that the correct Hovermap and robot (if applicable) are connected, then tap Continue.

Step 5: Set up the scan

  1. On the Scan setup page, enter a name for the mission.

  2. Tap Start Scan.

Step 6: Start the mission

  1. Once the pre-scan checks are complete and the scan has started, tap Continue.

Step 7: Stop the scan

  1. When you have captured all required data, tap Stop Scan to end the mission.

  2. Download your scan data from Hovermap.

  3. Process your data using Emesent Aura.

Outcome

After completing these steps, the mapping mission is complete and your scan data is available on Hovermap, ready to be processed in Emesent Aura.

Additional information

  • Split screen mode is supported on Android devices but is not recommended, as some features may not be available.
