This article explains how to recalibrate the charge meter on a GX1 battery using the dual-bay Charger. Recalibration restores the accuracy of the battery's reported charge level.
Each GX1 battery has a smart charge meter that reports its remaining charge. Over many charge and discharge cycles, the charge meter can drift, so the reported level no longer matches the true charge. Recalibrating the charge meter corrects this drift.
When to calibrate
The status LED on the Charger flashes red, which indicates the charge meter needs calibration.
The reported charge level no longer matches the battery's actual runtime.
What you will need
One or more GX1 batteries.
The dual-bay Charger.
The DC power supply and mains cable supplied with the Charger.
Time to complete the cycle. A full recalibration can take up to 19 hours, considerably longer than a standard charge.
Procedure
Step 1: Connect the Charger to power
Plug the DC power supply into the back of the Charger.
Connect the mains cable from the power supply to a mains outlet.
The Charger's fan turns on and all LEDs illuminate for two seconds at power-up.
Step 2: Insert the battery
Charge the battery to full before recalibrating. A recalibration cycle completes faster when the battery starts fully charged. See Charge GX1 batteries.
Place the GX1 battery into a Charging Bay.
Step 3: Start recalibration
Press the calibration button for that Charging Bay.
The status LED flashes blue to show the battery is in calibration mode.
The Charger runs a calibration charge, then a calibration discharge, then a final charge. The fan runs during the discharge stage. Do not press the calibration button again during the cycle, as this restarts the recalibration from the beginning.
Step 4: Wait for recalibration to complete
The status LED turns solid blue when the charge meter is calibrated. A full recalibration can take up to 19 hours, so leave the battery on the Charger until the status LED is solid blue.
When recalibrating two batteries at once, Charging Bay 1 takes priority and completes first.
Step 5: Remove the battery
Remove the battery from the Charger once the status LED is solid blue.
LED indication during recalibration
Status LED | Meaning |
|---|---|
Blue flashing | Battery in calibration mode |
Blue solid | Charge meter calibrated |
Red flashing | Charge meter needs recalibration |
Red solid | Error |
Outcome
The battery's charge meter is recalibrated and reports its charge level accurately. The battery is ready to charge and install in the GX1.
