Tools

  • 4 mm hex driver.

  • 6 mm hex driver.

  • 8 mm spanner.

Procedure

Step 1: Assemble the cage frame

Screw the two cage halves together to form the main frame.

Parts and tools:

  • 6 mm hex driver.

  • M8 × 16 mm Full Thread Cap Head Screws – Thread Lock (E98-SSCF-M8-16-A4-R360).

  1. Align the SS Half Cage (E32-HMC-SS) with the SS Half Cage with welded nuts (E32-HMC-SS-LKNT).

  2. Insert the M8 screws through the half cage into the welded nuts on the opposite half.

  3. Tighten the screws using the 6 mm hex driver.

Step 2: Attach the lower cover

Screw the lower polycarbonate cover onto the cage frame.

Parts and tools:

  • 4 mm hex driver.

  • 8 mm spanner.

  • Cage Lower Polycarbonate Cover (E34-HMC-PC-BOT).

  • M5 × 10 mm Full Thread Cap Head Screws – Thread Lock (E95-SSCF-M5-10-A4-R360).

  • M5 Form A Flat Washers (E95-HPW-M5-A2).

  • M5 Hexagon Nylon Locking Nuts (E95-HNN-M5-A2).

  1. Position the lower polycarbonate cover against the cage frame.

  2. Insert the M5 screws through the cover and frame, with a flat washer under each screw head.

  3. Secure each screw with a nylon locking nut, using the 4 mm hex driver and 8 mm spanner to tighten.

Step 3: Attach the carbon plate

Screw the carbon mounting plate to the cage assembly.

Parts and tools:

  • 4 mm hex driver.

  • Cage Carbon Uni Plate Assembly (E10-HMC-PLATE).

  • M5 × 10 mm Full Thread Cap Head Screws – Thread Lock (E95-SSCF-M5-10-A4-R360).

  • M5 Form A Flat Washers (E95-HPW-M5-A2).

  1. Position the carbon plate on the cage assembly so the vibration isolation dampers face the dovetail mount side.

  2. Insert the M5 screws through the plate and into the cage frame, with a flat washer under each screw head.

  3. Tighten the screws using the 4 mm hex driver.

Step 4: Attach the battery

Lock the V-Mount battery into the battery mount.

Parts:

  • V-Mount Battery 95Wh (E01-BAT-VMNT-95WH).

  1. Position the battery against the battery mount.

  2. Slide the battery to the left until it locks in place.

To release the battery, hold in the button on the side of the battery plate.

Place and secure the upper polycarbonate cover.

Parts:

  • Cage Upper Polycarbonate Cover (E34-HMC-PC-TOP).

  • Cage Quick Release Pin (E31-RWB-1688), × 2.

  1. Place the upper polycarbonate cover so it sits in the channel of the lower polycarbonate cover.

Step 6: Attach the carabiner

Attach the carabiner to the assembled cage.

Parts:

  • Large Carabiner (E31-1031457).

  1. Attach the carabiner at the attachment point shown in the image below.

The carabiner can be attached at either end of the cage, but Emesent recommends attaching it at the end with the polycarbonate cover. This orients Hovermap pointing down the hole and ensures it is sheltered properly by the cover.

Outcome

The Hovermap protective cage is fully assembled, with the V-Mount battery installed, both polycarbonate covers secured, and the carabiner attached. The cage is ready to be loaded with Hovermap and deployed for shaft scanning.
